When can you start planting tulips?

The answer is… now! Being the third most popular flower world-wide and a classic symbol of spring, it’s no surprise that Tulips play an important role in our gardens. Available in a variety of colors and having an unique cup shape, their simplicity makes it easy to add them to your must-have list. However, always remember Tulips dislike excessive moisture in the soil. Therefore, Juan and the rest of our team recommends planting Tulips now (early January). With that in mind, here are a few other Tulip fun facts you may not know:

Tulips are originally from Central Asia and Turkey.

The word “Tulip” originates from Turkish language and means “turbin” after the Turkish hat.

The flower was once considered the most expensive flower to purchase during “Tulip Mania” in the 17th century.

Did you know Tulips bloom in the spring for only 3-7 days?

Tulips are part of the lily family.

Tulips come in variety of colors that have different meanings. For example, red Tulips mean love and purple Tulips symbolize royalty.

There are over 150 species of Tulips with over 3,000 varieties.

Tulips can have one or more flowers on a stem.

Tulips can grow 1 inch in a vase.
