The Inspiration

Florence, by Lanson, 10/12/1978

Exclusive to Lanson B. Jones & Co., the European Scaled Garden philosophy possesses a special, emotionally rich and timeless thread, which connects the past with the evolving present.

While much of landscape architecture is typically about closing off the views, the Europe Lanson experienced in the 1970s was all about expanding views. The revelation of the Renaissance is created in the relationship and inspired interpretations between the architecture and the garden.

This unique approach was initially inspired by an extraordinary experience during my college years. I participated in the first study abroad program ever sponsored by Texas A&M’s College of Architecture and Landscape/Architecture. During my time in Strasburg, France and throughout Europe, I experienced an appreciation of the grandness of the architecture and gardens. Prior to that study experience, I had considered anything 100 years old to be an antique, but after living in the 1000-year old Chateau de Porteaus I had a new appreciation for the enduring nature of time. Little did I know that the inspiration of these special European designs would spark a passion that would lead me to open my own landscape architecture practice in 1994.
